We are now in the midst of prom season. Love it or hate it, prom references are almost everywhere, from print magazines to online advertisements. However tiffany blue bridesmaid dresses tiffany blue bridesmaid dresses, few mediums address one crucial aspect of the prom experience: doing your best to make sure that you pick a unique prom dress . After all, cocktail party clothes what girl aims to look like someone else at prom? I know I didn’t.
I thought that I was so uniquely dressed going to my Senior prom . It was to my pure shock when I arrived at prom and discovered that at least five other girls were wearing the same prom dress prom dress as I was. About three girls wore it in the same color brown; a few wore the red version. Yes, I know… it was not the best situation. Well, dresses bridesmaid at least I have some tips on how you can avoid being in a similar situation.
1. Go with your first instinct
Going with your first instinct means that even if other girls end up having the same dress, you can find joy in the fact that, at the very least, you love your dress.
When I went to buy my dress for Senior Prom, I tried on a few dresses but only really fell in love with one. It was a black halter dress with beautiful white embroidery throughout it. It was so lovely. Regrettably, that dress was almost sold out – the one I tried on was the only one left. The fact that the store sample was too many sizes too big didn’t discourage me from wanting to buy the dress; I was determined to buy it and get it tailored to fit me before prom. Finding the almost perfect Senior prom dress made me happy… for about two seconds. I can’t remember how it happened anymore, but I was somehow convinced to try on another dress that, although looked nothing like my lovely black and white dress , was available in my size. This new dress was all brown (I should note now that brown isn’ ivory ball gown wedding dresses t my favorite color on me) and rather plain compared to the black and white dress. Nonetheless boutique flower girl dresses , I tried on the brown dress. I liked it. Did I love it? No. However, it fit wonderfully. Somewhere between trying on the brown dress, retrying on the black and white dress, and talking to people I decided on the brown dress instead of the black and white dress. My younger sister ended up buying the black and white dress as her Junior Prom (our school had one Junior/Senior prom) dress and eventually ended up being voted ‘Best Dressed’ at prom. Oh the irony!
2. When friends ask about your dress, don’t leave them in too much suspense.
Your friends may know what other people are wearing at prom so if you describe your dress simple chiffon wedding dresses simple chiffon wedding dresses one shoulder evening dresses one shoulder evening dresses, they may let you know the similarities your dress may have with another girl’s dress.
My friend Katherine and I spent the month leading up to prom asking each other about our prom dresses . Neither one of us wanted to ruin the surprise so we gave each other very general descriptions (i.e., “ wedding dress cheap ;it’s long”). Lo and behold, Katherine was one of the girls who had the same prom dress as I did. The only difference was that hers was red.
3. Don’t buy your dress from your nearest mall.
Buying from the nearest mall means that even if you don’ wedding coats and jackets ;t have dress twins at prom, some of the girls at your prom are likely to have already seen your dress at one of the mall’s few fancy dress shops. Avoid this.
I live in a relatively small city and most people shop at the same mall. I thought that I was being uber-unique by getting my dress from one of the mall’s speciality shops instead of any of the big retail giants. I guess all of the other girls who bought the same dress felt that same way.
Even though at least five girls had the same prom dress as I did during my Senior Prom, we all accessorized differently and each girl looked very pretty in her own way. If you take my three tips, you may avoid having dress twins at your prom. Still, if you do end up having prom dress twins, accessories and self-confidence can help you look unique.
