2012 prom dresses
Brides who are thinking about having a wedding dress based on the Medieval period have

a long time range to think about. The Medieval period runs more than 1,000 years, signaling the end of

the Roman Empire at its beginning and the end of the Renaissance Period at its end, the 5th Century through the 16th Century. Throughout that entire time, most fashions stayed fairly consistent, with minor modifications here and there. The most consistent

thing about wedding dresses from the Medieval period is that almost none of them were white. This carried on into the early part of the Victorian Period as well. White was considered a poor color, in that it meant the brides family was poor and the bride would not be contributing anything to her new family; kind of harsh. Blue was the favored color, symbolizing purity, with green a

close second, symbolizing youth. Those were only the main colors; brides in Medieval times were all kinds of colors, but the main thing was that each wedding dress had to have at least something blue, which is where that phrase comes from. Brides from this time period also always wore garters, which is where that custom comes from also. Many people today might consider Medieval dresses as being simple, but they could be quite complicated and diverse by today\'s

standards. For one, most dresses didn\'t have to have tight bodices because there were few heavy women. But those bodices, though they had high necklines, could have the straps either in the front, back or side. Some of the necklines might have a v-neck, but it wasn\'t deep. They could have leather bindings instead of silk or lace, although in general they were velvet, wool or cotton. Sleeves were either flared or kind of draped. The silhouette could either be straight down or slightly filled. Nothing like hoops and petticoats, but stylish nonetheless. Wedding dresses made in the medieval style today borrow much from the past, but have a lot of modern touches. For instance, most of the dresses made today are white, though few are pure white. Because colors are more vivid today, as well as fabrics, newer colors such as reds and purples might be infused into the modern gowns. You will often see a lot of decorative designs along the bottom of the dress, often weaving through the entire dress, though

as much embroidery, since that\'s not consistent with Medieval dresses. Also, very few headpieces, something else that wasn\'t common. And the fabrics will be more modern, so expect to see almost no cotton or velvet.
